My Magenta Carpet

My Magenta Carpet

When I was a kid, we remodled my house.  I was so young that I don't even remember what our house looked like before it was remodled.  I do, however, remember remodeling.

Captain Bob did our remodel.  He's Rod's borther.  Rod is our across the street neighbor whose house was swimming pool colored until he married Freda.

I got to "help" pick the new bathtub.  AKA, Mom and Captain Bob took me to the store and Capt. Bob suggested I sit in the one on display to "make sure I fit."  I realize now that we would have gotten the tub anyway, but it was fun to be included.

I also got to pick the carpet for my room.  I chose magenta.  It was my favorite color.  And the carpet was put in my room and it stayed there until it was ripped out at least fifteen years later.  Understandable.  It was there for a long time.

And so, my capet ended up ripped out, and sitting in the backyard for a few days while people were cleaning it for new tenants.  That's where I found it, when I went back to visit Seattle and stopped by my old house.

It has these sad and pathetic little face spots now, but it was once the proud choice of a 6-ish year old.

Me and Dad, cruisn' around North Beach in a convertible.

I think this is one of the main things we have in common: we're uber dorks, and we love to go to new places.  We've both been to SF and North Beach several times, but never in a convertible, where you can look out and see the tops of buildings.  We also had dinner in Cow Hallow, drove down Lombard, Golden Gate Park, Twin Peaks, and Haight Ashbury.  I videoed with my little digital camera, he recorded traffic sounds with his audio recorder, and we just had an over-all really good time.

As dark and random as this photo is, I think it shows a nice little snippet of my dad and my relationship.
